Lord of Greywater Watch and chief of the crannogmen of the Neck, a small and quiet man whose floating hall has never been found by any mapmaker in the South. As a youth he rode to the tourney at Harrenhal in 281 AC, where he was set upon by three squires and rescued by Lyanna Stark, a debt he repaid, it is said, by riding as the mystery Knight of the Laughing Tree in the lists that followed, and by taking the field with her brother Eddard at the Tower of Joy in the war's last hour.
He alone among the seven companions who rode with Lord Eddard to the Red Mountains returned alive, and of what passed at that tower he has never spoken. He keeps to his swamps still, ruling the Neck through bog and reed and ranging spear, and has sent his children Meera and Jojen north to Winterfell in his stead while he himself remains at Greywater, the last man living who knows the whole truth of how the Targaryen line fell.
