Born of Lord Rogar Baratheon of Storm's End by Dowager Queen Alyssa Velaryon a month before her time in 54 AC, brought into the world by a knife to her mother's belly when the lady's strength failed her, named some days afterwards once it was certain she would live. The babe was frail in her cradle and tall in her childhood — by sixteen she stood an inch short of six feet with the black hair of her father falling thick to her waist, and was reckoned one of the great beauties of the realm. She was taken in 61 AC at Lord Rogar's plea to be raised at the court of her half-brother King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne, and seated at the feast for the investiture of Prince Aemon as Prince of Dragonstone in 62 AC beside the young prince himself, the two of them ignoring all who sat around them for the whole of an evening. They were betrothed in 68 AC and wed two years on at a feast said to rival her parents' Golden Wedding, and in 74 AC she gave him their only living child, Princess Rhaenys, the girl who in time would be called the queen who never was. Prince Aemon was struck down on the Isle of Tarth in 92 AC fending off Myrish corsairs, and Jocelyn wept bitter tears at the news; she grew angrier still when the old king passed her daughter's claim to Dragonstone over for the next-born son Prince Baelon. She lived to hold her grandchild Laena Velaryon at the close of that same year, and was in her own grave before the dragons danced in the skies above the city.
