The legendary trickster of the Age of Heroes from whom the lions of Casterly Rock claim their descent. The bards sing it many ways: in some songs he won the Rock from House Casterly by riddle, in others by tickling a lion from its lair, in the version most often kept at Lannisport by no greater weapon than his wits and a sack of gold. He is said to have taken the daughters of his hosts to wife at the height of the trick, peopled the Rock with his own progeny, and so founded the line that would carry his name down through the Andals and the dragons and on into the present day. No grave was ever cut for him, no bones turned up by any digger — only the gold of the Rock, which the maesters credit to a mother lode of his own deserving and the singers to a thousand years of his sons inheriting it.
