Last King of the Rock and first Warden of the West, born to the lions of Casterly Rock in the last decades before Aegon's Conquest. When Aegon Targaryen and his sisters crossed the Blackwater with their three dragons, Loren joined King Mern IX of the Gardener line in the Reach to make the Two Kings, the largest host the green lands had ever fielded, fifty-five thousand strong with five thousand mounted knights. The Two Kings met all three Targaryens at the Field of Fire south of the Blackwater Rush; the dry summer grass took flame at Balerion's roar and burned to death King Mern, his sons, his grandsons, and his brothers, while Loren of the Rock turned his horse and fled the slaughter with no more than four hundred riders. He bent the knee the following day, set aside the crown of the kings of the Rock, and was permitted to keep his ancient lands as Lord Paramount of the westerlands and the first Warden of the West. His eldest son and heir was wed to a Redwyne of the Arbor in the early years of the new realm, the better to bind the green lands to the Rock under the new dragon-peace; Loren himself lived on into Aegon's reign as a vassal of the Iron Throne, and was remembered ever after in the chronicles as Loren the Last — the last King of the Rock, last of an unbroken three thousand years of his line's crowns.
