Second son of Lord Balon Greyjoy of Pyke and Lady Alannys of House Harlaw, born sometime in the early 270s AC and dead before he had grown enough to leave the realm a memory of anything but his japes — cruel of mouth and given to lying for sport, in the only recollection his small brother Theon would carry into his hostage years at Winterfell. When Lord Balon rose against King Robert in 289 AC for the seastone chair, raised what he called the kingdom of the iron islands, and crowned himself with a crown of driftwood, Maron stood the wall of the old south tower of Pyke during the siege Robert's host laid across the bay. It was upon that tower that Ser Thoros of Myr made the breach with his flaming sword: when the wall came down beneath the breach the old south tower came with it, and Maron and the bones of him were buried in the rubble of his father's keep before he ever crossed swords with the men who took it.
