A red priestess of R'hllor out of Asshai-by-the-Shadow, said to have been sold into slavery as a child and risen through the temple of the Lord of Light to become one of its most formidable adepts. She crossed the narrow sea and took service in the court of Stannis Baratheon at Dragonstone, where she proclaimed him Azor Ahai reborn, the prince who was promised, and burnt the carved gods of the Seven upon the strand to crown her new champion in fire.
Her counsels turned Stannis from the Iron Throne to the Wall, where she set herself to working her arts against the long night she sees in her flames. Maesters who have set down what little is known of her note rubies at her throat that glow when her glamors stir, a power that makes shadows wear the shapes of men, and the testimony of King Stannis's own brother Renly, slain in his pavilion by a shadow with his elder brother's face.
