Warrior queen of Ny Sar and last princess of the free Rhoynar, who led the broken remnant of her people across the Summer Sea in ten thousand ships after Prince Garin's host was burned by three hundred Valyrian dragons in the Second Spice War. Hers was a flight of women and children and old men in the main, dogged by storms, by slavers, by the long death of the sea: of the ten thousand ships only a fraction made the mouth of the Greenblood, and most of those went up in flame the day she came ashore, for Nymeria meant her people to be Dornish now and would not have them dream of going back.

In Dorne she made common cause with Lord Mors Martell of the Sandship, took him for husband, and yoked her vast surviving host to his lesser banners. Together they fell upon the Yronwood kings and the petty kings of the stone and sand, and in the wars the singers called Nymeria's War they broke them all, sending six of the defeated kings to the Wall in chains and putting the seventh, Yorick V Yronwood, to the knee. When Mors was killed at the Boneway she fought on without him until the conquest was done, then crowned no king to follow her husband but called herself only Princess and Mors's heir their daughter, and so set in Dorne the custom of eldest-by-blood inheritance regardless of sex which holds at Sunspear to this day. She outlived two more consorts and ruled the principality near to thirty years before laying down her staff, and her line (Nymeros Martell, of the line of Nymeria) has held Dorne ever since.
