House Chester of Greenshield is a noble house of the Reach, holding the smallest and greenest of the four Shield Islands at the mouth of the Mander. By tradition the green hand they bear on their arms is said to be a gift of Garth VII Gardener, who first granted Greenshield to the Chesters in the Age of Heroes to stand guard over the river road to Highgarden and Oldtown.
For thousands of years the lords of Greenshield kept the longships of the iron isles from sailing up the Mander, until Euron Crow's Eye fell on the Shields with the whole of the Iron Fleet at his back. Lord Moribald Chester was cut down in the fighting, his keep was sacked, and the Crow's Eye gave Greenshield to a boy of Volmark to hold for him. No Chester has been seen at court in the years since, and what remains of the line has not been heard from in Oldtown nor Highgarden.
